Summary0002642: Way for paying customers to pledge hours to a new feature request
Description

Hi all,

It would be really great if there was a FORMAL way for users (especially users like us who buy block hours), to pledge a certain number of our hours to the implementation of certain features.

A way to vote with our dollars, if you will.

Ok, after giving this more thought, here is how I see this working, given the real world logistical issues of allowing anonymous pledges...

  1. No anonmyous pledges are allowed.

  2. Inverse customers who have pre-paid block hours can pledge any amount of these hours to any open bugs.

  3. These customers understand that once pledged, these hours are treated as 'unavailable' unless/until used for the pledged purpose, or the pledge is withdrawn so the customer could use them for other purposes.

  4. Once an Inverse customer has pledged at least x hours (3? 5?) of development time, Inverse is obligated to provide a quote for how many hours they are willing to obligate themselves to to get the Bug fixed/implemented.

  5. Inverse is obligated to implement the Bug at their quoted amount, even if it takes them longer (so, don't accept something that is really 'iffy').

  6. Inverse is under no obligation to refund any pledged hours, even if it takes them less time to implement it than they quoted.

That said, hopefully if they discover it was much easier to do, or found a much easier way to do it that they hadn't thought of when providing the quote, I would argue they are under a moral obligation to 'do the right thing' (ie, if they quoted 20 hours, and two customers pledged 10 hours each, and it only took 2 hours to implement the feature, I would hoe that Inverse would refund each customer at least 3, if not 4 of the pledged hours).

Last...

  1. If others who are not currently paying Inverse customers want to pledge an amount toward implementing a feature, they must become an Inverse customer and actually buy the number of block hours they want to pledge. Said hours are non-refundable, but can be freed up by 'un-pledging' them, and then can be used for anything else.
